If you don't drink alcohol or trying to reduce your alcohol consumption, non-alcoholic cocktails can be a great alternative. Even better if they come with functionality to boost your brain and energy levels.
As I work in drink development, we mostly focus on creating healthy and innovative drinks for the mass market, I tried and experienced a lot of great recipes and innovation. To be honest, I never liked the taste of alcohol, I'm not a drinker, I stopped it altogether in 2008. When I heard about non-alcoholic spirits I got really excited.
The issue is, non-drinkers usually have limited alternatives when they go out. If you are lucky, you can get freshly pressed orange juice in most places. There are not too many ready-to-drink alternatives for home consumption either. Making fun options that are satisfying and make you excited about whatever you do and brighten your work-time...I can see that working with cocktails means fun times for many...it all comes down to creativity.
Hibiscus has very similar taste to wine minus the alcohol, one of our older projects included a spicy hibiscus drink and all the people, who tried it, they said it tasted similar to mulled wine.
If you are up to a tropical adventure or productivity-boosting cocktails, let's get started.
If you want to see it in a visual form, check out my instagram post:
Ingredients:
Hibiscus tea (use the whole flowers not the teabag)
Ginseng - green tea (it's fine if it's in a teabag)
Honey (optional)
Lemon juice (1/2 lemon)
Orange juice (1 medium orange)
Blackcurrants or cherries
Any type of fruit pieces
Water
Frozen hibiscus tea cubes (optional)
Put a big handful of hibiscus tea in 1 L or water, and 1 teabag ginseng+green tea.
Cook it for 10 minutes then let it sit.
When it's a bit cooled down, you can use about 200-250 ml of the liquid for the actually drink.
Add ice cubes into an 500m jar. (if you want to make a more diluted hibiscus tea beforehand, and freeze it into ice cubes, it's even better, so the taste won't get watered up)
Add the freshly pressed juice of 1 orange and 1/2 lemon.
Add a small teaspoon of honey if you want to, mix it well.
Pour in 200-250ml of the hibiscus - green tea - ginseng infusion.
Add some water on top if the jar is still not full.
Add some frozen or fresh fruit, berries, citrus fruit pieces, whatever you prefer. I used blackcurrants in this.
Enjoy!
